Telecenters and Community Centers

Rural Telecenter at Khalanga, Rukum
Established a rural telecenter in Khalanga, Rukum district in 2005 with the cooperation of High Level Commission for Information Technology. CIT Nepal provided internet service to the community through VSAT with the cooperation of Winrock International.

Later in 2007 school telecenters were established in the following schools of Rukum districts:

  • Tribhuvan Janata Higher Secondary School, Chhibang
  • Mahendra Higher Secondary School, Chhibang
  • Ratamata
  • Bafikot
  • Simratu

From 2007 onwards CIT Nepal provided technical support to schools and community telecenters in Rukum district. Out of five school telecenters, three school telecenters (Ratamata, Bafikot and Simratu) could not achieve their objectives as expected. On the other hand, Tribhuvan Janta Higher Secondary School, a private school, is doing well because it has own resources to keep the telecenter working.
Mahendra Higher Secondary School, a community school in Chhibang village, has been implementing e-education successfully.

Rural Telecenter at Thakurdwara, Bardiya

Since its establishment, motivation and talk programs as well as several types of computer training were conducted for students, teachers, local activists, and tourism entrepreneurs in 2011. Internet service was provided to local communities through VSAT untill other means of data communication wore introduced in this area. Kisan Jagaran Sangh was our local collaborator during this period.
